Overview

The Olympus MultiScan MS5800 is a versatile, multi-technology pipe inspection system that provides application-specific scans.

This instrument can provide pipe inspections using:

  • Eddy Current Testing (ECT)
  • Internal Rotating Inspection System (IRIS)
  • Remote/Near Field Testing (RFT/NFT)
  • and Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL).

 

MS 5800E – Pipe Inspection with Eddy Current Testing (ECT)

Eddy current testing is a non-contact method of inspecting non-ferromagnetic tubing and can detect metal defects such as corrosion, erosion, pitting, wear, wall loss, baffle cuts, and cracks in the material.

The MS 5800E can be used to inspect:

  • Condensers
  • Feedwater Heaters
  • Heat Exchangers
  • Air Conditioners

MS 5800E key features:

  • Four simultaneous frequencies per input channel, without signal distortion
  • Electronic probe balancing with no need for an external reference probe
  • Four ECT inputs and 64 multiplexed channels for faster array probe inspections

 

MS 5800U – Pipe Inspection with Internal Rotating Inspection System (IRIS)

Ultrasonic IRIS technology is widely used as a prove-up technique to inspect ferrous, non-ferrous, and non-metallic tubing to detect and measure wall loss as a result of corrosion, erosion, baffle cuts, wear, cracking or pitting.

The MS 5800U can be used to inspect:

  • Boilers
  • Feedwater Heaters
  • Air Coolers
  • Heat Exchangers

The following is a list of the MS 5800U key features:

  • A setup wizard that simplifies equipment calibration and generates reporting code
  • Real-time gain and gate controls to allow for quick optimization of signal detection
  • Real-time and continuous color C-Scans to reduce missed flaws and enhance your reports
  • Full tube-length recording to review and analyze offline results with customers

 

MS 5800R – Pipe Inspection with Remote Field Testing (RFT)

Remote Field Testing is being successfully used to inspect ferromagnetic tubing such as carbon steel or ferritic stainless steel. 

The MS 5800R with RFT can be used to inspect:

  • Boilers
  • Feedwater Heaters
  • Carbon Steel Heat Exchangers

The following is a list of the MS 5800R key features:

  • Use up to 4 different frequencies and real-time mixes to provide greater flexibility during multi-frequency inspections
  • Broaden your inspection results for thin or low permeability materials

 

MS 5800R – Pipe Inspection with Near Field Testing (NFT)

Near Field Testing is a rapid and inexpensive technology for inspecting fin-fan carbon-steel tubing and providing very simple signal analysis.  This can be used to detect internal carbon steel tuning defects such as corrosion, erosion, or pitting.

The MS 5800R with NFT can be used to inspect:

  • Air Coolers
  • Carbon Steel Heat Exchangers

 

MS 5800R – Pipe Inspection with Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL)

MFL testing is a fast inspection technology that is effective in aluminum-finned carbon steel tubes and can detect sharp defects such as circumferential cracks, pitting and grooving.

The MS 5800R can be used to inspect:

  • Feedwater Heaters
  • Air Coolers
  • Carbon Steel Heat Exchangers
